I’ve been talking a lot about kindness this week with my three girls. Partly because its Random Acts of Kindness week (obviously), and also partly because it’s the end of the first half of the winter term at school and they are exhausted, which means they can be pretty grumpy and not-very-nice towards each other quite a lot of the time.
Out of curiosity, I asked each of them this morning what the word ‘kindness’ means to them.
Here are their answers:
> Lola (age 4): “Being nice”
> Mimi (age 5 and a half): “Helping someone if they need it”
> Ella (age 7): “Saying sorry if you do something wrong”
I thought that was quite an interesting mix of answers. It made me stop and think about what the word kindness means to me. I think for me, kindness is a feeling. I get the same feeling when I give kindness as well as when I receive it from someone else – a warm glow inside that just feels good. I can’t explain it in words.
And then I started wondering, what does the word ‘kindness’ mean to you? Leave your answer as a comment below 🙂
