I’ve mentioned on this blog in a previous post that some time ago I’d discovered a fabulous website called www.futureme.org. Here you can write a letter to your future self, which then gets delivered to your inbox at a future date of your choosing. You can also read other people’s letters to themselves that they have publically posted – there are some brilliant ones on there, so if you’ve got a spare half hour or so I can thoroughly recommend having a browse.
Anyway, exactly three years ago I wrote a letter to myself, to be delivered to me on my 30th birthday. I hit send and then immediately forgot all about it and got on with my life.
So you can imagine my surprise when late last night, this message popped quietly into my inbox…
“Dear Future Me,
Happy 30th birthday! Wow, thirty. Do you feel grown up yet? There was a time when no-one, let alone you, thought you’d even make it to 18, let alone 30. Thank goodness you got it all out of your system, otherwise you’d have never experienced everything you’ve experienced, and would never have achieved everything you’ve achieved. And that’s quite a lot really. Shall we list some? Well, there was getting good grades at school and college, travelling round Australia and New Zealand, climbing Ayre’s Rock, doing a bungee jump, doing a skydive, climbing a volcano, getting a tattoo, going white water rafting, hitch-hiking and living to tell the tale, training to become a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, setting up your own business and making a success of it by actually helping people through their issues, raising money for a national charity after training as a fundraiser, meeting Neil, buying your first house, passing your driving test, getting back behind the wheel after two car crashes, giving birth to and raising 3 beautiful girls, supporting friends and family when they need you … You’re pretty cool really aren’t you? So what were you so worried about? You’re awesome! I hope that by now you believe it, and are able to see yourself for the kind, intelligent, caring, loving, loyal, cool, pretty, talented and all round wonderful person you are, whether you’ve got your Mummy/girlfriend/daughter/friend/hypnotherapist/Chloe hat on.
Learn to love yourself – you deserve it.
Cxx”
Seeing this message has made me realise exactly how far I’ve come, and also how many things there are that I still want to do. It’s prompted me to think about where I might be, say, five years from now, and so I’ll definitely be writing another letter to the future me within the next couple of days.
I’m also curious as to what you’d write to a future you. I’d love for you to share your letters with me – so please do leave a comment below.

I’m going to write a letter too, and it’ll be all about not waiting for the right time as there never is one. Just grab life by the neck and do it! Find a way to pay for really living instead of worrying about the food, roof, bills, kids, schools, colleges etc. time is so precious and people are too. Thanks xx
