I have long been a fan of this quote by the author Neil Gaiman: Quite by chance I came across a graduation speech he gave at the University of the Arts in 2012 on Youtube. So I watched and listened to it. And then had to share it with all of you. He talks about mistakes and failure; about recognising whether you are choosing to move towards or away from your current goal. He talks about not doing things for the money but doing them because you love them; about the problems of both failure and success and how we are all really just making it all up as we go along. He talks about finding your voice – doing what only you can do best because you’re you and no-one else can replicate that; about balance and when to say yes and when to say no. He talks about rule-breaking – about going beyond the boundaries of what it possible and achieving the impossible because no-one has written any rules about the impossible yet. And he talks about letting go of the worries and simply enjoying the ride, because it can take you to the most wonderful places. Have a listen – I think you’ll enjoy it. And once you’ve listened I hope you go out there and do something (and make plenty of mistakes along the way) 🙂
