Another ten days gone and we are edging ever closer to the end of the summer holidays, which I feel more than a little bit sad about. Although it’s always a challenge, I really do cherish the extra time with the girls (and my husband when he’s not at work).
The thing about #projecthappy is that it’s really making me aware of how many days could slip by in a haze of nothingness. And while I don’t think every single day has to be special or extraordinary in terms of doing something spectacular, I’m realising more and more how it’s the ordinary moments, the little things, that can make a day extraordinary if you just tune in to them.
We’ve done a lot of fun stuff over the holidays, and have been lucky enough to be able to have a few day trips here and there to places that we wouldn’t normally go to, but many of our days have been spent at home doing not very much. And there has still always been something extraordinary about those days, whether it’s a beautiful sunset or a tickle fight with the girls.
Noticing the extraordinary in the ordinary is definitely the key to #projecthappy, and it keeps me going on a daily basis.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Day 533: Together for 11 years today and my husband surprises me with the unexpected delivery of a dozen gorgeous red roses 🙂
Day 535: A morning spent at the swimming pool = a quiet afternoon finally finishing the 1000 piece jigsaw we bought at the Harry Potter Studio Tour last weekend and have been working on as a family ever since
Day 536: A trip to Birches Valley on Cannock Chase. We took a detour to get there, which resulted in us seeing wild deer, then went off the beaten track while we were there to have a bit of an adventure. Sometimes it’s good to get lost, especially amongst all this green 🙂
Day 537: I happened to glance out of the window and saw this pretty sunset. Grabbed my camera, took a couple of shots, and then in a blink of an eye it was gone, replaced with yet more rain clouds. Nature is amazing.
Day 538: The girls invented a new game on this rainy Tuesday afternoon. They all sat on Daddy (banana boat style), who was trying to have a nap before a night shift at work. Then they all fall off onto the bed amidst much screaming and giggling!
Day 539: Another Wednesday, another sunset-from-the-train shot. A rather spectacular sunset following a day of downpours
Day 540: As I got home after dark last night, I didn’t get to see the surprise that my husband and the girls did for me. Found out this morning that they’d washed my car! (And had lots of fun in the process) 🙂
