I’ve decided to make ‘Wednesday Wisdom’ a regular feature on my blog. I have a vast collection of quotes saved on my laptop, and it seems only fair that I share some of them with you.
Sometimes, if I’ve been working hard on something and happen to have lost myself in thought for long enough, they pop up on my screensaver in amongst all my photos and I’ll happily spend hours sitting watching them (when I really ought to be doing more important things, like working!)
What I’ve often found is that just the right one appears exactly when I need it, which then helps me organise my thoughts, or feel better about something, or gives me the inspiration I needed to continue with what I was doing.
This was today’s:
This one is particularly appropriate for me right now because Monday sees me heading to Cornwall for my Nana’s funeral. It’s taken a while to be arranged because there had to be a post-mortem, and so everything still feels dark and sad and difficult, and I know that Nana isn’t quite at peace yet.
However, despite the challenges of the last few weeks, one thing that I have been consciously trying to do is to appreciate all of the good things in my life: being grateful for the warmth and sunshine of the recent heatwave; enjoying hearing my girls telling me all about their days spent at nursery and school and holiday club; getting excited about all the fun stuff we’ve got planned to do together over the summer; celebrating with my clients as they achieve the things they want to achieve; and reminiscing over happy memories of time spent with Nana and Grandad.
Being grateful for all of these things (and more) is my way of turning on the light during the dark times – to chase away the shadows of sadness that still linger.
So remember – if you happen to be going through a dark time right now (for whatever reason), make a point of turning on the light. You never know what you might be surprised to see.
