This coaster has been quietly sitting on a shelf in my office, minding it’s own business, for at least 2 and a half years. I put a tall glass of cold water on it every morning as I settle down in my chair to see clients, or write blogs, or reply to emails.
And yet for some reason, up until today I don’t think I’ve actually really appreciated exactly how accurately it describes what I do.
I don’t know why today of all days, a random sunny Sunday at the beginning of June, my unconscious chose to notice it properly, but it did, and so this blog post was born.
You see, Cognitive Hypnotherapy isn’t always about getting rid of stuff – limiting beliefs, negative thought patterns, unwanted behaviours, phobias and such like.
A lot of the time it’s more about helping people gain something – confidence, energy, belief in themselves – to enable them to live their dreams.
We all have them. Dreams I mean. Stuff we want to do. Stuff we LOVE to do. A life we want to live. Passions that we want to explore.
Some people come to see me because that’s exactly what they are looking to work with me on – how to go about achieving their dreams. How to turn that passion into a profitable business that they enjoy doing so much that it doesn’t even feel like work. How to find a work/life balance so that they can have enough time and energy to do all the stuff they want to do, the stuff they love to do. How to have the life they want to live.
Sometimes it does involve helping them let go of unconscious beliefs they’ve been holding on to that have been getting in their way – after all, if nothing was getting in their way they’d have achieved their dreams already, right? But that’s usually a temporary side-step away from the main focus of our work together, which can involve anything from goal setting, to closing and opening doors, to discovering their own unique set of signature strengths (and how to use them in the most powerful and positive ways possible to enable them to live their dreams).
