It’s from 2009, but I have the feeling that if this story was reprinted in the newspapers today it would generate the same opposing reactions.
In my humble opinion, I think this woman is absolutely beautiful. She gives off an air of confidence and happiness at being in her own skin. In no way would I consider her to be a ‘plus-size’ model (and by the way, a US size 12-14 is exactly the same in the UK).
I feel sad when I read all the comments underneath the story arguing about whether she’s got fat thighs, or whether her little roll of stomach fat is unhealthy. It shouldn’t matter. If my journey through anorexia and back again has taught me anything, it’s that other people’s opinions on what you look like really aren’t important. All that matters is that you are happy being you.
It’s something I’m still working towards, and I’m getting there. I put my body through hell and back, and then I had three babies in quick succession. I too have a little roll of stomach fat when I lean forwards as this woman is in the picture. And do you know what? I’m ok with it. Sometimes I even quite like it..
I’d love to know what your opinions are on this article – please feel free to leave your comments below.
I’ll leave you with a quote:
“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” (Thich Nhat Hanh)
