When my family and I moved into our new-build house six and a half years ago, the field at the entrance to the estate was all green grass with a few young trees and bushes dotted around. Fast forward to now and the trees and bushes have grown and the ground is no longer just grass – it is also a mass of dandelions, buttercups and daisies. I hear many people grumble as we walk up the path on our way to school in the morning, usually along the lines of “I wish the council would do something about these weeds”.
It always surprises me because every single time we walk up the path, without fail, my daughters pick buttercups and hold them under each other’s chins to see if they like butter. They pick daisies and present a small bunch of them to me (one of my favourite gifts to receive from them). And they pick dandelions, closing their eyes tightly as they make wish after wish after wish.
Sometimes they ask me if wishes really do come true. I always answer that if they work hard enough to make them happen and believe in the possibility of their dreams, then yes, their wishes might just come true.
My children and I don’t see a field full of weeds. We see a field full of wishes waiting to happen.
What do you see?
Weeds?
Or wishes?
